Fujairah, 19 Feb. 2013 (WAM) - HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, opened yesterday the third edition of the Fujairah Rebec (Rababa) at the Fujairah Fort. rebec is a bowed string musical instrument commonly used by Bedouins.

Organised by Fujairah Culture and Information Authority (FCIA), the traditional musical event attracts prominent researchers and rababa players from ten Arab and foreign countries.

In his opening address, Mohammed Saeed Al Dhanhani, Deputy chairman of Fujairah Culture and Information Authority, said " This event has become a landmark in the field of music forums specializing in this instrument on both the Arab and international levels. It is considered an important point of reference for researchers, music enthusiasts and academic institutions."The opening ceremony featured a performance entitled "The Voyage of a Rababa" by the Emirati Takht Band, lead by Emirati musician Ali Obaid Al Hafeeti, and poetry reading of a poem entitled "Oyoun Al Qawafi", accompanied by a rababa performance by artist Jabr Ismail and a Joza instrument performance by Iraqi artist Anwar Abu Daragh.
