Kenya’s government is planning to develop a financing plan to support the operations of Kenya Airways (KQ) by the end of December 2023, Business Daily reported.

“To support the aviation industry, the government will develop a turnaround strategy for Kenya Airways,” the government said in the draft 2023 budget policy statement.

The plan, if implemented, will save taxpayers money spent annually to keep the national carrier afloat.

President William Ruto had said that the country was looking for a strategic investor to buy a controlling stake in KQ.

KQ was allocated 36.6 billion Shillings ($294.8 million) in the current financial year for its re-organisation, taking the amount injected into the national carrier to 63.2 billion shillings.
