Al-Aqeeq, the new Yemeni satellite channel, launched on satellite last Thursday. The director of the channel, Anwar al-Ashwel, said that the channel is coming out with a new style that matches with the hopes and ambitions of all Yemenis in and outside of Yemen.

He reiterated that the channel faces big challenges by local and regional competitors that made the administration of the channel to delay its launch, so that it can come out with a better performance that is expected from the Yemeni spectators. He also pointed out that they have prepared excellent programs and series that will be broadcasted in the coming period. Al-Aqeeq is launched with the transmission 11219V on Nile Satellite.

One of its biggest program is Shae'r al-Yemen,  a competition for all Yemeni poets, receiving prizes and awards based on votes from the community. Their topics deal with unity, fighting extremism, importance of progress and development, boosting tourism and open-ended topics.
