Muscat - In line with its expansion plans in the Middle East, the German hotel chain, Steigenberger launched its first InterCityHotel outside Europe in Salalah this month.

Considered to be the first international mid-market hotel in the city, InterCityHotel is spread over eight stories and offers 70 rooms as well as a restaurant and a modern gym. One of the highlights is the roof-top swimming pool with fabulous views.

The hotel is built in the heart of the business district and within the immediate vicinity of various ministries. The airport is also only 4km away, stated the company.

An official told Muscat Daily that the hotel started taking guests from July 2 and is seeing good occupancy since then. As it is a mid-market hotel, the room rates currently start around RO55.

Puneet Chhatwal, CEO of Steigenberger Hotels, was recently quoted as saying, "Following our Steigenberger debut in Dubai in November last year, we are now bringing our InterCityHotel brand to the Middle East for the first time.

"This represents a further important milestone for us."

The project is being implemented in conjunction with the owner Al Sedra Real Estate of Oman, a subsidiary of the Golden Group of Companies.

Steigenberger Hotels is one of Europe's leading hotel companies, operating 117 hotels in three continents, 25 of which are under construction or in planning stage.

The hotel group currently has three brands under its portfolio: Five-star Steigenberger Hotels and Resorts, four-star lifestyle brand Jaz in the City, and three-star InterCityHotel.

InterCityHotel is a medium-price brand that offers 38 hotels located in city centres and at airports.
