Cairo- Mubasher: The Egyptian government has allocated $1.5-1.6 billion for the purchase of COVID-19 vaccines, the Minister of Finance, Mohamed Maait, said in an interview with CNBC Arabia on Sunday.

The North African nation entered into agreement with GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance, to obtain 20 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, he added.

Maait further revealed that the country is also in talks with AstraZeneca, Sinopharm, and Pfizer to obtain the required vaccine.

Late on Sunday, the Ministry of Health reported 890 new coronavirus cases, taking the tally to 156,397 with 122,993 recoveries and 8,583 deaths.
