Ahmed Al-Balushi: The agreement contributes towards enhancing our public transport services

Talal Al-Mamari: The partnership comes as part of Omantel 3.0 transformational strategy to enable digital society to flourish

Muscat, December 18, 2016

Omantel, the Sultanate’s first telecoms provider, and Oman National Transport Company, ‘MWASALAT’, signed a partnership agreement to provide free WiFi in all MWASALAT buses, in addition to providing a number of other services and facilities that will mutually benefit both parties.

According to the agreement, Omantel will provide free WiFi connectivity on all MWASALAT buses. This service will allow public transport users to experience first-hand the convenience of broadband mobile internet. Omantel will also provide a suite of other solutions aimed at improving the quality of services provided by MWASALAT. Additionally, MWASALAT will also name two bus stations after Omantel; one at Sultan Qaboos Street in Al-Khuwair, Muscat, and the other one in South Al-Mawaleh, on the main road to the Al-Dakhiliya region.

The agreement is aimed at growing the partnership between the two companies in addition to enhancing levels of mutual cooperation and investment. This will be achieved by providing a package of facilities which will jointly boost the quality of services provided to customers for a period of five years.

Commenting on the agreement, Ahmed Ali Al-Balushi, CEO of MWASALAT noted, “We believe that this partnership integrates the roles between the two national companies for the benefit of the customer. This step comes as part of the MWASALAT efforts to find alternative solutions to support public transport, which in turn will contribute towards reducing our reliance on government support for the sector. We are pleased to have Omantel as our strategic partner, and provide us with the required telecom solutions. We expect to see an increased interest for our public transport service after launching this unique solution”.

Talal Said Al-Mamari, CEO of Omantel commented, “At Omantel, we realize the fact that everyone likes to stay connected when they’re on the move. This is why our Omantel 3.0 strategy is aimed at supporting the country’s transformation towards a connected digital society. Within this framework, our partnership with MWASALAT helps to achieve this objective by providing free internet for the thousands of passengers that use public transport daily, while at the same time making travelling on MWASALAT a more attractive option within the society.”

Omantel boldly innovates to deliver the best customer experience, while growing Oman’s most extensive and reliable telecommunications network. Investing in the future of the nation, Omantel connects even the most remote communities of the Sultanate to each other and the rest of the world. Omantel is the Sultanate’s first and leading integrated telecommunications services provider, enabling the digital society to flourish, allowing new ways of doing business and delivering a world of information, news and entertainment.
