Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia - The Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI), a Member of the Islamic Development Bank Group, is organizing a seminar to discuss the role of Islamic microfinance in poverty alleviation on 14-15 May 2016 in Bogor, Indonesia.

IRTI is collaborating with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and three Indonesian institutions to organize the event, in conjunction with the 41st Annual Meeting of the IDB Group. The institutions are Bogor Agricultural University (Institut Pertanian Bogor, IPB), Perhimpunan BMT, and the Financial Services Authority (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan, OJK).

The seminar aims to develop a body of knowledge and tools for the advancement of Islamic microfinance and enhancing capacity transfer on the best practices in Islamic microfinance.

Officials from financial regulatory institutions, microfinance institutions, and other experts will come together during the event to discuss the nature and importance of Islamic microfinance for poverty alleviation in OIC member countries.

The program will also feature the launching of the Islamic Microfinance for Poverty Alleviation and Capacity Transfer (IMPACT) Program, which aims to encourage products development and disseminate the best practices in Islamic microfinance.

Officials to speak at the opening of the seminar are OJK Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mulya Siregar, Indonesian Cooperatives and SMEs Minister Dr. Anak Agung Gede Ngurah Puspayoga, the Rector of IPB, a representative of the OIC Secretary General, IDB Vice President (Ops) Dr. Mansur Muhtar, and IRTI Director General Prof. Mohamed Azmi Omar.
