Over 133,000 judicial operations in a week in Saudi Arabia

JEDDAH — Pertinent judicial bodies have conducted as many as 133,222 operations in a week, the Arabic-language daily Al-Watan reported on Wednesday quoting judicial sources.

They said there had been 64,556 court and 21,663 executive decisions made, and 47,003 documentation works carried out.

The sources said the majority of these operations were done electronically as all Saudi courts have become paperless under a decision by Justice Minister Mohammed Al-Samaan within the ministry's 2020 National Transformation Program.

The ministry said the electronic linkage with 26 various government and private establishments have made the court work extremely simple and fast.

It said in the past, the correspondence in paper with various government departments would take more than two months to finish.

The ministry recalled that last year more than 7.6 million judicial operations were carried out.

Meanwhile, the criminal courts in the Kingdom considered a total of 10,799 public rights cases during the past 10 months with a monthly average of 1,080 lawsuits.

Riyadh region topped with 4,277 public rights cases representing about 13.6 percent of all cases in the country while the Eastern Province, with 1,657 cases or about 10.4, came second. Makkah, with 2,212 cases (8.4 percent) occupied the third place.

According to the sources, Asir had 537 cases, Qassim 390, Jazan 335, Tabuk 303, Madinah 287, Hail 222, Al-Jouf 186, Najran 147 and Al-Baha 28.

Nawwaf Al-Nabati, a lawyer, said the cases of public rights relate to the rights of society and cannot be dropped by volition by anybody.
