Cairo – Egypt has made unprecedented achievements in the transportation sector as part of its EGP 1.1 trillion strategy for 2014-2024, Minister of Transport, Kamel El-Wazir, said.
Between 2014 and 2020, investments in road and bridge projects reached EGP 377 billion, El-Wazir added in a statement on Wednesday.
This came during the 65th session of the Executive Office of the Arab Transport Ministers Council.
The national project for building roads with total lengths of 7,000 kilometres (km) is planned to be established at a cost of EGP 175 billion to raise the total lengths of high and main roads to about 30,500 km from 23,500 km in June 2014.
Moreover, the plan also includes building 22 axes on the Nile at a cost of EGP 33.5 billion, increasing the number of axes to 60 from 38.
Additionally, investments in railway projects are planned to reach EGP 142 billion to increase the total lengths of the network to 10,200 km by 2024 and 11,530 km by 2030 from 9,570 km in 2020.
