Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC), the principal offtaker for water and wastewater projects in Saudi Arabia,  has invited expressions of interest (EOI) for the development of Juranah Independent Strategic Water Reservoir (ISWR) project in the Makkah region.

SWPC said in a statement that the project would have a water storage capacity of 2,500,000 cubic metres and will include all associated infrastructure and facilities.

It said the project would be procured on Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) basis, and the successful bidder, through a project company to be incorporated, will provide the required storage capacity to SWPC under a 30-Year Water Storage Agreement (WSA).

The EOI submission deadline is 16 September 2021.

The advisors on the project are Synergy Consulting IFA as Lead and Financial Adviser; Amer Al Amr Law Firm as Legal Adviser; and WSP Middle East as Technical Adviser.

Saudi Arabia's Independent Strategic Water Reservoir Programme, according to the SWPC statement, involves development of strategic storage projects in the Kingdom’s regions, in line with Vision 2030 and the National Water Strategy 2030, to improve the water sector’s resilience and response to emergencies and disruptions, provide peak load management of Haj water demand and increase water storage to 7 days of water demand by 2030.

Saudi Arabia aims to meet 80 percent of Haj peak demand through strategic reservoirs, and an equivalent of 30 percent through desalination plants, 10 percent of which is kept as a buffer, according to SWPC's latest seven year statement.
