Iraq has approved plans to build a new residential city in the Northern town of Mosul within a post-war scheme to tackle a festering housing crisis, an official has said.
The project is located in a former military camp and it would be offered to developers as investment, said Suha Al-Najjar, head of the National Investment Commission.
Najjar told the official Iraqi news agency (INA) late Sunday that the cabinet has given the green light for “Al-Ghuzlani residential city” and that a master plan for the project would be devised within the next weeks.
“After the master plan is completed and we obtain approval from the Defence Ministry to allocate land from the camp, we will offer the project to investors,” she said.
INA did not provide details of the project but said the cabinet endorsed plans to build that city in mid August and that investors would be selected in an “auction.”
