Jeddah, Saudi Arabia - Google announced today its annual Year in Search results showcasing the most trending topics people in KSA searched for over the past year.

“More than a billion people come to Google Search everyday to learn, discover, and find answers. Google’s 2017 Year in Search showcases the people, topics, events, and places that captured the world’s attention this year. There are many ways to explore the year through the lens of Google Search — from Saudi Arabia’s qualification to the 2018 World Cup, the passing of Hanaa Iskandar, this year’s various results are reflective of what truly captured people’s attention over the year. We are happy to see that Google was part of people’s everyday lives as they searched for some of the most important moments of the year,” said Joyce Baz, Head of Communications for Google in the Middle East and North Africa.

The trending queries are the searches that had the highest spike in traffic over a sustained period in 2017 as compared to 2016. The lists include the top trending searches, people, events, sports personalities, shows, songs, and foods in KSA. The data is generated by looking at an aggregation of trillions of searches (or queries) that people searched on Google this year. The lists are then filtered of spam and repeat queries to build lists that best reflect the spirit of 2017.

The new governmental electronic portal, Citizen’s Account, followed by the Ministry of Education’s Faris System topped the most trending searches list. In the shows category, the most trending shows in KSA was Shabab Al Bomb 6 and Thekrayat La Tmout, followed by Khamsa Banat. Similarly, the top trending songs list was topped by Zelzela, followed by Despacito.

The most trending public figures in the KSA was topped by the Kuwaiti presenter Rashid Shuaib and the Emirati actress Roaa Sabban, followed by thousands on queries about Ivanka Trump who visited Saudi Arabia in May.
