Oman's Duqm Special Economic Zone Authority (SEZAD) will soon be announcing the winner for operating the Duqm fishing port, a SEZAD official said.

"About 12 to 14 companies have submitted their bids for the contract to operate the fishing port and we will soon be announcing the winner," Jalal Al Lawati, Director of Marketing and Investment Promotion, SEZAD, said.

The tender for developing, operating and managing the fishing port and investing in the land within the port area was floated in January 2020, according to an April 2020 issue of the SEZAD quarterly magazine. The fishing port is the largest of its kind with 10-metre depth, 3.3 km long two water breakers, 1.3 km fixed dock and six floating anchors.

Speaking at the Oman-Japan Investment Virtual Forum organized by Ithraa, Oman's investment and export promotion agency, Lawati said: "We are currently negotiating for a couple of huge fishery investments within the fishery zone." Currently there are about six to seven fishery projects within the zone located about 5.6 km away from the Duqm fishing port.

About $250 million is to be invested in the fisheries industrial zone and the fishing port which will house about 60 processing plants, storage facilities, vessel repair, aquaculture, R&D and training facilities, according to SEZAD.
