Abu Dhabi: H.E. Eng. Hessa Al Malek, Advisor to the Minister for Maritime Transport Affairs, The UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure was awarded the “Personality of the Year” honour at OJME Offshore Achievements Awards 2021. The 6th edition of the awards that recognise influential names in the offshore rig business was held on October 10th, 2021 at the Address Hotel, Dubai.

H.E. Eng. Hessa Al Malek won the accolade owing to her outstanding work in the UAE’s maritime sector that has witnessed ample growth over the years. Through her accomplishments in the field and beyond, Eng. Al Malek has become a well-known name not only in the UAE’s maritime sector, but also in the Middle East region.

H.E. Eng. Hessa Al Malek said, “The UAE’s sophisticated maritime infrastructure and the capabilities of our ports and marine facilities have ensured the success of the maritime and the offshore sector in the country. In 2020, the national fleet had 970 vessels, whereas our ports handled over 19 million TEUs. The maritime sector thus is a distinguished model for the world. To ensure continued growth in the sector, I firmly believe that it is my personal mission to support the industry in every way possible. To this end, I work in alignment with the national goals and initiatives to support the sector. At the Ministry, we are tirelessly working to issue many decisions that alleviate the burdens of shipowners and offshore companies, while also motivating them to comply with new legislations and digital transformation in the industry.”

Al Malek adds, “Apart from this, I have time and again showcased support for causes like seafarers welfare, protection of the marine environment and women empowerment that are topics of utmost importance. Now, my ultimate goal is to contribute to the development of the country and encourage the future generation of maritime professionals, both men and women.”
