HAMBURG/DUBAI- Some 13 trading companies are believed to be taking part in the international tender from Jordan’s state grains buyer to purchase 120,000 tonnes of barley which closed on Wednesday, traders said.

No purchase has yet been made and results are expected later on Wednesday, traders said.

Trading houses participating were said to be CHS, Nibulon, JP Global, Hakan, Bunge, Glencore, Soufflet, Cerealcom Dolj, Cofco, GTCS, Ameropa, Aston and Al Ghurair.

It is Jordan’s first reported barley tender since April 2019.

In the past few months, Jordan has struggled to buy grains in international tenders after changed terms for quality specifications and payment reduced participation by international trading houses. But recent tenders have been more successful.

Jordan on Tuesday bought 60,000 tonnes of wheat in a separate tender.

The barley in Wednesday's tender is sought in a range of possible shipment combinations in 50,000 tonne consignments, traders said. Possible shipment periods are May 1-15, May 16-31, June 1-15 and June 16-30.
