HAMBURG- Iranian state-owned animal feed importer SLAL purchased about 200,000 tonnes of animal feed corn and around 350,000 tonnes of soymeal in an international tender which closed last week, European traders said on Monday.

The corn was thought likely to be of Brazilian origin. The soymeal was expected to come from Brazil or possibly Argentina or other South American countries.

SLAL was not thought to have purchased any of 200,000 tonnes of feed barley also sought in the tender.

Shipment for the corn and soymeal was in August to September. One trader put the soymeal purchase at up to 400,000 tonnes.

Prices and method of payment was unclear, with U.S. sanctions on Iran continuing to hinder payment though usual banking channels.

More buying interest from Iran for both corn and soymeal was seen as possible despite large corn purchases by Iran from South America recently, traders said.
