UAE passengers bound to Saudi Arabia will still be subject to quarantine upon arrival even after the travel ban has been lifted, a government advisory said.
The Ministry of Interior has announced that effective today, May 30, arrivals coming from the UAE, as well as United States, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, United Kingdom, Sweden, Switzerland, France and Japan are allowed to enter the kingdom.
“The institutional quarantine will be applied on those coming from the aforementioned countries,” Saudi’s press agency said.
Saudi Arabia had earlier imposed a temporary ban on the entry of non-nationals travelling from the UAE to Saudi Arabia amid surging COVID-19 cases.
The kingdom announced the lifting of restrictions after the Public Health Authority’s report “showed stability and effectiveness in controlling the pandemic in some of these countries”.
Saudi Arabia had allowed international flights to resume on May 17.
The kingdom did not specify what quarantine rules will be applied to travellers from the UAE. As of previous announcements, passengers coming from a country with reported new COVID-19 variant are required to self-quarantine for 14 days. The rest of the passengers may be subject to a quarantine of seven days.
