RIYADH: The Anti-Trafficking in Persons Committee at the Saudi Human Rights Commission (HRC) is organizing a four-day training program titled “Search and investigation procedures in trafficking in persons cases.”
Experts from the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) will participate in the program, which seeks to advance the capabilities of persons working in criminal investigation relevant to anti-trafficking.
The program covers topics related to criminal investigation strategies, evidence collection and inspection procedures.
It addresses seven axes, including the human rights-based security approach to trafficking in persons cases from the perspective of protocols and national law.
The initiative also looks into the procedure of interviewing victims, and the provision of witness and victim protection during criminal justice processes in accordance with human rights guidelines.

The training program falls within the framework of the memorandum of understanding signed between the HRC and the OHCHR, which includes technical cooperation programs in several human rights-related activities.
It also aligns with the Kingdom’s efforts to combat human trafficking by promoting the prosecution and conviction of perpetrators and the provision of medical, psychological and legal assistance to victims.
The HRC implemented the program in Riyadh last month and plans to hold it in the Eastern Province on Jan. 26.
