Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, represented by the General Directorate of Standards and Metrology has announced conditions that must be followed by institutions and companies importing cosmetics, personal care and laboratories registered with the Directorate.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday said: “The Directorate General of Standards and Metrology (DGSM), shall accept test reports from only accredited laboratories based on the International Standard, ISO 17025 general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories.”

With scope in cosmetic products and personal care and document proof must be submitted.

The Directorate will still accept test reports from DGSM 's registered laboratories till 30th September 2020 and will not accept any report from non-accredited laboratory after that deadline.

“Laboratories registered with DGSM should seek to obtain accreditation on above mentioned standard in the grace period till 30th September 2020,” the statement added.

This comes as a result of the Ministry's keenness to control the safety of products and verify their conformity with the applicable specifications and regulations.

The Ministry requested all to cooperation for the public interest.
