Muscat: A notice, supposedly issued by the Royal Oman Police (ROP), has been flagged as fake by the Government Communications Centre (GC).

The fake 'warning letter' was being circulated on social media. In it, the ROP is quoted as warning people to beware of persons knocking on doors and offering free masks as an initiative of the government.

The false letter goes on to say that the scamsters would then trick people into trying on a mask for size and then drug them before going on to loot their homes.

A statement issued online by Government Communication Center (GC), said: “It is not true what is circulated about presence of a police warning message. We advise all to take caution when dealing with strangers.”
