Egypt - A gang has scammed some of Banque Misr’s customers by getting their bank cards’ pin numbers, Chairman of the bank Mohamed El-Etreby said in a phone interview to ‘Ala Masolity’ talk show.

The gang has obtained around EGP 2.7 million through nearly 13 fraud incidents that are currently under investigation, El-Etreby said.

All deposits made within the bank are safe and customer accounts did not witness any breach, he noted.

He stressed that the withdrawn money will return to the owners within hours, however, the bank is not responsible for the incidents.

No employee working for Banque Misr has been proven by investigations to be involved so far, the bank’s chairman said.

Moreover, El-Etreby warned citizens not to give away any banking information or pin numbers to anyone, even if it is for the bank’s customer service.
