Tunisia - The urban development project of the city of Sousse was kicked off on Wednesday.

The project will be carried out by the Municipality of Sousse, in partnership with the Ministry of Local Affairs and Environment and with the support of the Swiss Confederation.

Aymen Ghedira, project coordinator said this is a pilot project that will continue for three years and is funded at about 6.5 million dinars by the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research of the Swiss Confederation.

He stressed that this project aims to improve the technical and organisational capacities of the municipality and will improve the general environment of the city of Sousse and its agglomeration, the quality of its services and the lives of its citizens.

Among the components of the project, the preparation of studies and master plans in the fields of planning, transport and energy, the implementation of concrete measures to improve the quality of life and use of urban public transport as well as the implementation of projects favouring the significant reduction of energy consumption and the optimisation of certain public services, he added.
