MILAN - Up to 72% of Italy's electricity will have to be produced with renewable sources in 2030 in order for the country to reach the European emissions-reduction target of 55% by that year, Italy's Ecology Transition Minister said on Wednesday.

"In 2030, 70-72% of electricity will have to be produced mainly by wind farms or photovoltaic power plants," Roberto Cingolani told daily la Repubblica in an interview.

He added Italy would have to install 65-70 gigawatts of renewable energy over the next decade and that the remaining 28% of energy would be produced with natural gas.
