All hotels, restaurants and event venues in Dubai will remain closed until further notice, according to a new directive.

The Dubai Tourism, in its latest circular, said it has extended indefinitely all the precautionary measures rolled out earlier to stem the spread of coronavirus, which has so far infected more than 5,000 people in the UAE.

“To ensure the health and safety of its residents and visitors, we extend all the precautionary circulars on the website until further notice,” the agency said in a letter addressed to all inbound tour operators, hotel establishments, floating restaurants, venues and event organisers in Dubai.

All public venues in the UAE, including shopping malls, public parks, beaches, bars, cafes and restaurants were ordered closed last month as part of ongoing efforts to curb the spread of coronavirus.

The number of infections in the country has escalated after authorities beefed up mass testings and contact tracing. As of Wednesday, the country found 5,365 people positive for coronavirus.

On March 14 and 15, the Dubai Tourism issued a series of circulars, ordering the closure of hotels, spa and wellness facilities, amusement parks, theme parks, playgrounds, electronic games, fitness clubs until the end of the month.

In its latest directive, Dubai Tourism said it continues to evaluate the pandemic in coordination with the health authorities.

The hospitality sector has been one of the hardest hit by the current health crisis. In a new survey conducted by Mingora Consult, a restaurant data and performance company, 90 percent of CEOs in the food and beverage sector said they expect to experience a significant decline this year due to the pandemic.
