Spain-based Almar Water Solutions will develop a water treatment project for Aramco’s Zuluf onshore oil facilities, the company said in a statement.

The 185,000 cubic metres per day (m3/day) water treatment plant will support water injection for the Zuluf project in the Arabian Gulf.

The contract was signed December 2022, while the financial closure materialised by mid of March 2023. The investment value wasn’t disclosed.

The project, which will be developed under a 25-year BOOT (build, own, operate, and transfer) scheme, includes the design, development, financing, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance, and transfer of ownership.

Carlos Cosín, CEO of Almar Water Solutions, said: “We are fully committed to water supply and treatment in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and this new plant will support the sustainability of the Zuluf project.”

For the execution and operation and maintenance (O&M) of the plant, Almar Water Solutions will work with a consortium of companies formed by Al Jomaih Energy and Water Co., Fisia Italimpianti and Aquatech International.

The Zuluf project , together with the 450,000 m3/day Shuqaiq 3, will take Almar’s total water treatment capacity in Saudi Arabia to 635,000 m3/day.
