Saudi Arabia deployed 133 wastewater treatment plants in 2021, up 14.66 percent year-on-year, the General Authority of Statistics said in a recent report.

Riyadh region had the highest number of plants at 26, followed by Aseer region (20) and Eastern region (19).

Nearly 419 million cubic metres of treated water was reused in 2021, an increase of 23.60 percent compared to 2020. The share of reused treated water stood at 22.35 percent of the total treated water in 2021.

Additionally, the amount of recycled industrial waste in Jubail and Yanbu reached 340,000 tonnes in 2021, growing 23.46 percent year-on-year, representing 61.58 percent of the total collected industrial waste.
