Egypt’s Rowad Modern Engineering (RME) has been awarded a construction contract worth 337 million Egyptian pounds ($12 million) by Fayoum Water and Wastewater Company for sewerage networks and pumping stations in Abu Shanab and Alagamein clusters at the new Qahafa wastewater treatment plant.

The contract forms part of Fayoum Wastewater Expansion Programme funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), RME said in a statement on Sunday.

The scope of the contract covers of 9 pumping stations with a total design capacity of 14,589 m3/day, sewerage networks with a length of about 53 km and forced mains with a length of 17 km.

The project will serve a population of 29,785 and the time for completion will be 18 months, and contribute to reducing the pollution of Lake Qarun, the third largest freshwater lake in Egypt.
