Siemens Energy and the German Development Cooperation inaugurated today the Egyptian German Technical (EGT) Academy in Ain Sokhna, Egypt. The academy is part of a strategic alliance between Siemens and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), in partnership with the Productivity and Vocational Training Department (PVTD).

The ceremony was attended by Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Dr. Mohamed Shaker; Dr. Hany Azer, Advisor to the President of the Republic and Transport Affairs; Dr. Cyrill Jean Nunn, German Ambassador to Egypt; Uwe Gehlen, Head of German Development Cooperation in Egypt; Joe Kaeser, President and CEO of Siemens AG and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Siemens Energy AG; Andreas Adrian,  Cluster Coordinator for Technical Education and Labor Market and representative of GIZ; and other senior executives.

“We are proud to be taking part in shaping the future of Egypt’s industry by equipping young talents with the best education and expertise to lead the way,” said Kaeser. “Our partnership with GIZ will help us achieve great things for Egypt and the region, and we look forward to more collaborations in the years to come.”

“Our goal is clear; we want to support Egypt to meet social and business demands. The EGT Academy will help bridge the gap between future market needs and skills of engineers and technicians and help boost economic prosperity through sound technical practice,” said Dr. Dr. Cyrill Jean Nunn, German Ambassador to Egypt. “The plan is to turn this academy into a vocational training hub, not only for the country, but for the Middle East and Africa as well.”

The EGT Academy will support occupational training to engineers and technicians in all industries and offer them the opportunity to develop their skills in a variety of topics, including workplace safety and automation. Additionally, it simulates real-life conditions, using the latest technology and a variety of teaching approaches in practice-oriented training.

As an innovative public private partnership model, the EGT Academy offers demand-driven training programs to the local industry by tailoring training modules to companies’ specific demands and market needs. To accommodate the increasing diversification of the country’s industries, the academy caters to a variety of job profiles by cooperating with different private training providers.

With the comprehensive approach of modernized equipment and tailored training modules with improved hands-on training, private sector involvement will impact business opportunities and development policy initiatives to create better social and economic prospects for the Egyptian people in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030 for sustainable economic development in employment. In addition, job seekers as well as trainees at PVTD’s institutions will be better qualified because of access to modernized equipment, better didactics, and improved hands-on training.
