Dubai UAE: The School Bus Department of the Public Transport Agency, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in cooperation with the Child City of Dubai Municipality, launched yesterday an awareness and promotional campaign in Dubai's private schools.
Abdul Aziz Malik, Director of School Bus Department confirmed that the campaign aims at spreading the awareness among the pupils, their parents and the school headmasters over the feasibility of using the school buses for the positive role they play in decreasing the traffic congestions and elevate the safety in Dubai's roads.
He said that this is the first time a government agency in Dubai launching an awareness and promotional campaign together on the purpose of raising the public awareness over the importance of transporting the pupils by school buses and how effectively they contribute to diminish the traffic jams.
He added that a number of fun and recreational activities would accompany the campaign aiming to attract the pupils to the school buses. Among these activities, a cartoon character called "Murshid" is to escort the pupils all over the trip from home to school and take them back from school to home for one month period.
Two female school counselors from the "Child City" will present exciting and cultural programs inside the bus, as well as quiz shows and workshops to help the pupils enjoy the trip and elevate their cultural levels. Through the campaign there will also be activities to steer the pupils to follow the right way to embark and alight the school bus; in addition to guide them to the best and safest practices to use the bus.
The Public Transport Agency of RTA, through a number of innovative solutions and strategic initiatives, endeavors to deliver the best services to the public including the pupils to embody the RTA's vision of providing "Safe and Smooth Transport for All."
Malik concluded that the aim behind this campaign is to focus on the importance of the school busing and the influential role it plays in decreasing the traffic congestion and safety and security of the pupils of different age categories, as the modern studies proved that using the school buses is safer from the small vehicles. He also hinted that his department is in process to lay down the plans bound to develop this service, carry out essential changes and elevate it according to the internationally adopted criteria applied in this field.
The School Bus Department is regarded newly-formed to develop the school busing mechanisms in Dubai on all fronts including the rules and statutes of the buses and their drivers.
