-First-part of a long-term project between Q22 Communications and Marketing Department and VCUQatar
-Local student, Mona Al Sulaiti, chosen as winner with her interpretation of Doha's skyline and receives VCUQatar scholarship
DOHA, QATAR - 23 January 2013: The Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee (Q22) and Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar (VCUQatar) announced the VCUQatar student winners in the first stage of a community initiative 'Doha Skyline Project 2012'organized by Q22.
Local design student Mona Al Sulaiti was announced as the winner for her striking visual identity of Doha's skyline and awarded a VCUQatar scholarship sponsored by Q22. Designs by Lolwa Al Mohannadi and Noora Al Melhim were awarded runner-up certificates.
VCUQatar students were tasked with creating their own artistic interpretations of Doha's skyline in the form of their choosing - sketching, painting, illustration - with the submissions then evaluated by Q22's Brand department and Lambie Nairn London, Q22's Brand Agency, for compatibility with Q22 brand identity and uniqueness.
The Doha Skyline project is the first-part of a long-term community engagement programme between Q22 and VCUQatar, with the aim being to include and integrate the work of local students into the Q22's brand identity, which will be used at events and in official publications globally.
Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee Communications and Marketing Director, Nasser Al Khater, said: "This project is an important part of our community outreach and ties in with our aim of ensuring that the delivery of a successful 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar is achieved through utilizing talented and creative young individuals from the local population. I would like to congratulate Mona on winning the first stage of the competition and look forward to seeing her work being integrated into our communications output."
Al Khater continued: "Our plan is to hold an annual exhibition of all student work where the public in Qatar can visit and see how the students' designs have been incorporated into our communications."
The Dean of Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar, Allyson Vanstone, said: "Our engagement programme with the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee is a fantastic opportunity for our students. They have the opportunity to contribute to Q22's brand identity and play a significant role is shaping Qatar's design industry."
Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee Brand Guardian, Carmen Smith, presented the awards at a small ceremony held at VCUQatar's campus in Education City.
The programme will continue in the coming semesters with projects focusing on calligraphy, typography and Qatar Landmarks.
The long-term aim of the programme is for Q22 to work closely with VCUQatar students in order to capture Qatar's progress creatively in the build-up to hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
