Foot experts assess Mall visitors' foot health
Dubai, June 30, 2004 - Shopping means leg work; it's a well established fact. What's new, however, is that shopping can actually help you get to know your feet better. That is of course if you are shopping at Deira City Centre between July 1st - 4th.
People visiting Deira City Centre will be given a free assessment by foot experts on their foot health. They will also be given brochures and additional information on Athlete's Foot, a common skin fungal infection that is prevalent during summer.
The foot analysis activity is being organized by Lamisil, the seven-day cure for Athlete's Foot, to coincide with the UAE's hot and humid weather. The assessment will include diagnosis of common foot problems such as Athlete's Foot, corns, calluses, bunions and flat feet, and will be conducted by foot experts from the Dubai Chiropody Centre.
George Wagih, spokesperson for Lamisil comments, "The activity seeks to raise awareness of Athlete's Foot, which is a common skin condition that causes a host of irritations. We want to educate people about steps they need to take to enhance foot hygiene and correct the misconception that only athletes can suffer from Athlete's Foot."
Dr Sami Tabib from the Chiropody Centre explains, "Due to the summer's hot and humid climate, fungal infections are more likely to grow and multiply. People need to think about the hazards of walking barefoot around swimming pools and communal changing rooms, as they provide ample opportunities for the fungus to be contracted from moist floor surfaces. It is also important that people recognize the symptoms of Athlete's Foot to avoid re-infection or spreading it to others."
Athlete's Foot grows and multiplies on the surface of the skin causing a host of irritations to the feet including an itching burning sensation, blistering and cracking of the affected skin and bad odor. If not treated immediately, the condition can lead to great discomfort and in some cases disfigurement. Those carrying the infection should not ignore it as it can develop into a serious infection and can spread to other parts of the body or infect others.
With feet playing a key role in most activities, let alone shopping, what better time to direct attention to the importance of maintaining healthy feet than at the onset of summer, when feet are not only in use, but on display as well.
