Larger casing Big Ingenieurs store power for longer
IWC Schaffhausen, the luxury Swiss watch manufacturer, has launched a new version of its famous line of Ingenieur watches. The new Big Ingenieur has a large 45.5 mm case that houses the company's unique 51112 calibre movement and patented Pellaton automatic winding system. The movement contains a seven-day power reserve; a feature that will appeal to those who intend to purchase the watch to wear infrequently and who will be spared having to reset its time if left unworn for a few days.
Dispensing with the non-transparent iron cage of previous IWC Ingenieur models, the new Big Ingenieur has a slimmer profile and allows for the visually arresting mechanism of the movement to be revealed through the sapphire glass back. The impressive size of the Ingenieur casing provides for a prominent display, but IWC have kept comfort in mind by retaining a leather strap instead of a steel bracelet.
The new Big Ingenieur differs from previous models in other respects. The date display has been moved to the 6 o'clock position and the power reserve display for seven days - with the red indication for the last day - has its place at 3 o'clock. The minute graduations are numbered in steps of five and the size of the dial allows for an optimal, generously-dimensioned display of all the indicators.
The Big Ingenieur is the largest Ingenieur ever built and is engineered for robustness; a feature underlined not only by the integrated side guard for the screw-in crown, but also by the water resistance and pressure resistance to 12 bar (120 metres) that are inherent to its design.
The Big Ingineuer is just one of the models available from the IWC Schaffhausen collections; wristwatches that include pilots' watches, divers' chronographs and skeletonized minute repeaters. The company is the only watch manufacturer based in the east of Switzerland and has been producing high quality mechanical timepieces for almost 140 years. The IWC brand has become synonymous with craftsmanship and performance by discerning customers the world over.
