Official lipstick of Abu Dhabi Fashion Week

Dubai, UAE - Have you ever bought a lipstick and then been disappointed when you tried it on at home and realised that the shade didn't suit you?  Has that lipstick then been relegated to your lipstick 'graveyard' - lipsticks that you don't wear but, due to the cost, you are reluctant to throw away?  With new Colour Collections Lipstick, the official lipstick of Abu Dhabi Fashion Week, Max Factor has created three collections of shades designed to suit individual skin tones - whether Fair, Medium or Dark, providing a choice of perfect flattering shades to fit you perfectly, so you no longer have to worry about buying the wrong lip colour.

Samira Olfat, Max Factor make-up artist was busy backstage at Abu Dhabi Fashion Week creating looks for the catwalk models, and chose to use Max Factor Colour Collections. "The single most important factor in defining whether a lip shade will suit a woman or not is the colour of her skin," said Samira. "Finding the right shade of a particular colour can be challenging, especially at fashion events where models come from all over the world and have a range of different skin tones. I need to make sure the girls look their best on the catwalk. Max Factor Colour Collections lipstick shades are easily matched to each of the models' individual skin and lip tones."

Max Factor Colour Collections are based on research by Max Factor which showed that on average 65% of women waste money on lipsticks and the number 1 reason for this is buying the wrong shade.  In fact, 1 in 5 women have 6 or more lipsticks in their 'lipstick graveyard' [1].

The research also showed that women are looking to be more adventurous with their lipstick colour yet most are unsure which colours actually suit them.  In addition, women can find a store environment daunting.  Artificial lighting and the huge array of shades that are too similar on offer can complicate the process of choosing a lip colour, leading women to stay in their 'safe' zone - repeatedly purchasing the same shades despite wishing they could experiment more.

Max Factor shade experts and Max Factor Make-Up Artists led by Pat McGrath have worked with women across the globe to understand which shades look best on particular skin tones.  They discovered that as the skin gets darker, women need a more intense lipstick colour to differentiate the colour of the lips from skin colour.  So, the Colour Collections' shades intensify within each of the collections as they move from Fair to Medium to Dark.  In addition, lip hue (the actual lip colour) is greater for darker skin tones which means women with this skin tone can wear a wider range of distinct colours.  Whereas, lip chroma (how dull or bright the lip colour is) is greatest for fairer skin tones so women with this skin tone can wear a broader range of similar colours.  These insights have been leveraged to create Max Factor Colour Collections Lipstick, three shade ranges of lip colours designed to suit the three individual skin tones: Fair, Medium and Dark.

Traditionally, lipstick shades are arranged in a particular order from the lightest to the darkest shade so from Pink to Rose shades, Mauve to Berry shades, Orange to Red shades and Beige to Brown shades.  This makes it easy to find a particular colour (eg. a pink) but does not help women find the right tone of that colour which suits them best.

Colour Collections has three 'mini ranges' of up to ten shades designed to suit Fair, Medium and Dark skin tones, allowing women to choose across a specific collection, Pink through to Brown, assured in the knowledge that all the shades in their collection will suit their corresponding skin tone.  Indeed, all you need to do is identify your skin tone and then by choosing a shade from your specific collection you can find a Red, Pink, Nude or Brown to suit you.  In addition to a wide spectrum of ready-to-wear shades, Colour Collections also has conditioning and lasting benefits.  Its rich formula contains ingredients such as shea butter, green tea extract and Vitamin E. Moisture is locked in and the lip colour lasts hour after hour so not only does the lipstick look good but it feels good too.
