IBM Supports GITEX Technology Week Event with Platinum Sponsorship, Expertise: IBM WorldWide Executive Zollar to Keynote

UAE-Dubai - IBM is to take a major role in backing the First Official GITEX Technology Week Global Conference event as the company intensifies its commitment to building platforms for direct dialogue with customers in the Middle East region. The conference, running concurrently with GITEX Technology Week from September 8-12, will be keynoted on the opening day by top IBM worldwide executive Al Zollar.

"We wanted to drive home the message that IBM is focused on delivering services for Middle East enterprises and governments and that means building a more complex message platform. GITEX is the premier forum for building dialogue between professionals in the Middle East business technology space and we see the conference as a major opportunity to further that dialogue," said Takreem El-Tohamy, General Manager of IBM Middle East, Egypt and Pakistan.

The move comes as IBM confirmed a number of contact points throughout GITEX that will further the 'traditional' stand-based product display. The company will also be following up on its participation during GITEX with an expanded conference platform.

"We're delighted to be working together with IBM at GITEX again this year, particularly with IBM's strong backing for the launch of the important GITEX Technology Week Global Conference. Our relationship with IBM at GITEX stretches back decades and strengthens every year," said director general of Dubai World Trade Centre, Helal Saeed Al Marri.

In addition to IBM's sponsorship of the GITEX Week Global Conference, other conference activities planned by IBM include the Third IBM Middle East CIO Forum, scheduled to take place in Dubai in late October 2007. Additionally, the company is to hold a separate conference event in September, focusing on innovations in Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

"Together, these events represent a major new process of building stronger dialogue and information sharing with our customers in the region," said El-Tohamy. "As our customer relationships in the region centre ever more around the delivery of business services, we understand the need to deepen the dialogue and work together with customers to create stronger and more complex communications around those services and concepts that are driving business innovation in our region today."

IBM's annual CIO conference which has been taking place alongside GITEX for the past two years has witnessed great success. This event gathers CIOs and senior IBM executives from around the world to initiate dialogue with customers to define the path of innovation moving forwards.

"We have long been ardent supporters of GITEX and consider it the premier annual meeting point for the region's decision makers in technology and business information systems," said El-Tohamy. "That commitment to the show from IBM, of course, not only continues, but strengthens year on year."
