New everyday stamps carry stylized calligraphic motif of the word 'Emirates' in the shape of a falcon

Dubai, January 31, 2007:  Emirates Post today introduced a new set of definitive stamps with a stylized design that features the word 'Emirates' in Arabic calligraphy in the shape of a falcon.

The stamps, issued in denominations of Dh. 1, Fils 150, Dhs. 2, Dhs. 3, Fils 350, Dhs. 4 and Dhs. 5, are available in all post offices, starting today. Customers have the choice of using the old or the new definitive stamps.

Definitive stamps are everyday stamps sold at all post offices for all types of postage. They are different from commemorative stamps which are issued to mark certain events or occasions. Emirates Post usually changes the design of definitive stamps every five years. This is the fifth set of definitive stamps issued by the corporation.

Abdulla Al Daboos, Director General of Emirates Post, said: "Definitive stamps are the mirrors of a country's culture and heritage, as they are seen on almost every piece of mail. It is, therefore, important to design these stamps with care and a great deal of thought.

"Our new definitive stamps have used the beauty of Arabic calligraphy to create a stunning graphic, with the artistic letters cleverly forming the shape of a falcon, the ultimate symbol of Emirati culture. We are confident these stamps will raise the profile of Emirates Post among philatelists and also serve to enhance UAE's profile globally."

Along with the stamps, Emirates Post has issued special First Day Covers of Dhs. 21 each. These are available at Dubai Central Post Office Karama, Deira Main Post Office and Abu Dhabi Central Post Office.
