Dubai eGovernment has announced that it recently awarded eLibrary certificates to a group of 24 representatives from various departments of Dubai Government who had successfully completed an eLibrary System Course. The training course was conducted to complement Dubai eGovernment's launch of a newly developed eLibrary service, an electronic system that allows libraries to participate in the online indexing of library materials.
The government entities that sent delegates to the eLibrary System Course were Department of Health and Medical Services, Dubai Ruler's Court, Dubai Police, Islamic Affairs & Charitable Activities Department, Dubai Civil Defence, Dubai Public Prosecution, Dubai Statistics Centre, Dubai Customs, Imam Malik College, Dubai Naturalization and Residency Department, Judicial Institute and Dubai Police Academy.
Hani Al Toukhy, Libraries and Information Specialist at Dubai Police Academy, who received an appreciation certificate in recognition of his supervision of the course, said: "The participants have been very enthusiastic about the eLibrary initiative and this is very important as we aim to achieve a seamless implementation of the project with all the participating government entities. With the knowledge and expertise they have gained from the training session, I am confident that the participants will be better equipped to promote their respective organisations' other eService initiatives in the future."
Moza Al Akraf, Acting Director of eServices, Dubai eGovernment, said: "We are gradually making significant progress in applying the eLibrary system with the participation of different government organisations in the eLibrary programme. This initiative is a key step towards establishing a digital society and taking full advantage of the benefits of modern technology in delivering public services. We are thus looking forward to further expanding the coverage of the eLibrary initiative to create a truly centralised access point for a comprehensive range of books and other research material."
It is noteworthy that Dubai eGovernment is working with the Public Libraries Section at Dubai Municipality to render eLibrary services with the aim of building an online library that provides a single reference point for researchers, minimising spending across government entities, automating the libraries and enhancing the overall efficiency of library services. This enables the participating entities to have access to various books, periodicals, audio/video tapes, compact discs and other research material through a centralised online platform depending on the databases of the entities taking part in this service.

In addition, the eGovernment initiative seeks to improve and enhance procedures by maximizing the benefit from technology, so that users from all walks of life will be able to utilize the portal for their specific needs with considerable ease.
