- Bahrain makes strides in autism therapy and services through Think
Bahrain - Think Behavior and Development Center for Children announces it has been recognized as the first in Bahrain, first in GCC, and first in the entire Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to receive accreditation at the highest level (3 years) from the Behavioral Health Center of Excellence* (BHCOE). The accreditation acknowledges Think’s commitment to providing high quality service in Applied Behavior Analysis for children with autism spectrum disorder.
Established in 2013, ‘Think’ was founded by the first Bahraini Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), Ingy Alireza. ‘Think’ was the first organization in the country to provide ABA services to children and their families.
‘Think’ provides ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis), a type of therapy that improves socially significant behavior (e.g., language, daily living, social skills, listening) using interventions based on the science of learning and behavior. Many experts consider ABA to be the gold-standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or other developmental conditions.
In addition to ABA, ‘Think’ provides a variety of other services including language and behavioral assessment, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, caregiver training, school support, consultation and community workshops. ‘Think’ strives to support individuals to meet their full potential by improving communication, play, social, life skills, school readiness, as well as reducing challenging behavior that may impede further development. ‘Think’ accomplishes this by providing individualized treatment not only for the child, but for the family as a whole.
Speaking at the announcement, ‘Think’ Founder Ingy Alireza stated, “Think is humbled to be the first behavior and development organization in Bahrain, GCC, and the entire Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to earn BHCOE Full Accreditation as we continuously assess and evolve our programs. Each child we work with is unique and receives comprehensive individualized programming to meet his or her specific needs."
“We are honored to be the first in the region to be granted full accreditation from BHCOE,” said Alexandrea “Allie” Wiegand, Managing and Clinical Director. “This shows our dedication to high quality clinical service and helps educate the community on what to look for when searching for treatment options.”
''Having worked at Think since 2014, I really feel proud that I am part of this remarkable team. Since the day I stepped into Think, I felt the positive energy surrounding the staff, children and families. We work with children and families who experience life differently than others and it takes a great heart to work with them. At Think staff strive to achieve the best outcomes for children by enhancing their communication skills and life skills. Children leave here after meeting significant milestones in their lives. Whenever families face challenges, we work with them into turning them into learning opportunities. We make sure children excel at their programs while taking into consideration their individual needs and family circumstances. Achieving the BHCOE accreditation is an achievement for all of us, the families we serve and the community in Bahrain and we are immensely proud of,'' Zahera Alanfooz M.A. (Ed.), BCBA, Clinical Supervisor.
Think’s senior clinical leadership team (including the second and third Bahraini BCBAs) have 35 years’ experience collectively in behavior analysis and special education. They have practiced in the U.S., Europe and the Middle East.
