Egypts Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, said that the National Cancer Institute plays a pivotal role in providing its services to millions of patients from different governorates.

Abdel Ghaffars remarks came during his inspection tour to follow up the ongoing expansion and development works in Egypts first hospital specialising in treating Womens breast cancer and affiliated with the National Cancer Institute.

The hospital which was established in 2013, is the countrys first one specialising in treating breast cancer for free. Since 2013, 480,000 outpatients have been received, 150,000 chemotherapy sessions have been performed, and 11,000 breast surgeries have been done.

The development work at the hospital includes increasing the number of outpatient clinics from 5 clinics to 16 clinics. It also includes increasing the number of chairs in the chemotherapy department, to 55 up from 24.

The minister directed equipping the hospital with modern equipment, according to the latest international standards and getting it operational as soon as possible.

He confirmed the importance of developing the educational and medical level at the NCI and providing a distinguished treatment and health service.
