Cairo – The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population has received the first batch of the locally-manufactured COVID-19 vaccine under a deal between the Egyptian Holding Company for Biopharmaceuticals and Vaccines (Vacsera) and China's Sinovac.

The batch amounts to 1 million doses of the Vacsera-Sinovac vaccine which received approval for emergency use by the Egyptian Drug Authority on 23 August, the Minister of Health, Hala Zayed, said in a statement on Wednesday.

Work is underway for manufacturing and testing 15 million doses of the vaccine, which are the monthly output capacity of Vacsera to be distributed among 657 vaccination centres spread across the country, Zayed added.
