AMMAN — The Council of Ministers endorsed new regulations on Monday, limiting the import of cigarette production machinery and prohibiting the import of raw tobacco, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

As per the new regulations, only existing tobacco factories are allowed to import the machinery under the new regulation, unless registered and located in one of the free trade, development or special economic zones, Petra said.

Tobacco and cigarette products processed, packaged or manufactured by these companies registered in development and free trade zones will also be subject to taxation upon entering the local market.

The Council of Ministers also signed a number of memos with Kuwait and the Republic of Fiji on judicial cooperation and bolstering ties, and approved establishment of a new Sharia court in Al Khalidiya in Mafraq

The Cabinet also decided to put on hold the solid waste power generation plant project in Al Akeider Landfill in Ramtha District, according to Petra.
