Petrofac Announces Commercial Production From Chergui
UK-based Petrofac announced that it had started commercial production of gas and condensate, on 8 August, from the offshore Chergui field in Tunisia, which it has been developing as operator in partnership with Tunisia’s national oil firm ETAP. The company said that it expects to maintain the production plateau rate of 20mn cfd for at least four years, with initial gas flows from two wells, and that the total cost of developing the field was around $100mn. The gas is to be sold to the state gas and electricity firm STEG via a 57km pipeline from the field’s central production facility to a receiving terminal near Sfax on the mainland. Possible future development opportunities may be carried out to extend the production plateau and the ultimate life of the field, Petrofac said. Chergui is one of several important projects that are expected to lift Tunisia’s gas output in 2008 and 2009 (MEES, 23 June).
