Dubai: Dubai schoolboy Piers Pakenham-Walsh pipped Dubai Falcons ace Saeed Al Muhairi to the honours at the first round of the 2013 Ramadan Challenge at the Indoor Kartdrome at Motor City.
The pair earned the same number of points after the 30-strong field had completed the nine heats, but Pakenham-Walsh was given the win as he had recorded the fastest lap of the two. Ramez Azam was third and also completed the fastest lap of the night, while Sam Zian was fourth.
Mohammad Al Mutaiwe’e, another flying the Dubai Falcons flag, was fifth ahead of Anas Al Halabi and Giovanni Betti. Hussain Umid Ali was eighth, followed by Atef Al Barwani and Saeed Bin Touq.
Kartdrome assistant manager David Bright said: “It was a first for the Indoor Kartdrome, with driving of a very high standard on a twisty and challenging track — the event was a great success.
“Of course there were some dubious on-track moments, but the incidents were far less than expected because of the discipline and sportsmanship shown by the drivers. Now we look forward to the next round.”
The second round of the Kartdrome Ramadan Challenge takes place on Monday, July 22, at the outdoor track.
