Dubai: etisalat is planning to launch its second mobile area code soon, CEO Mohammad Khalfan Al Qamzi revealed.
Al Qamzi told Gulf News that the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has awarded etisalat the use of area code 056, as a second code for the company's subscribers.
He also said the company had discussed with the TRA the possibility of letting etisalat subscribers use the new area codes in addition to keeping the old ones.
du subscribers will be given the area code 055.
He did not mention when the new code would be available.
"In line with our local expansion plans, and after the connection with the second provider, of course we will need a new code for our new subscribers in the UAE," he added.
Stock movements
Al Qamzi said the company's mobile subscribers exceeded 30 million worldwide recently.
"We scored over 30 million subscribers in our mobile networks in the foreign countries that we work in," he said. "etisalat expects to double the numbers in three years."
He added that etisalat expects half of those subscribers to come from its new licence in Egypt. "The company expects more than 15 million subscribers from its Egyptian new licence" he said.
Al Qamzi would not comment on the movement of etisalat shares in the stock market.
"All that I can say is that our local market did not reflect the real value of some companies not only etisalat stocks," he said.
"You can find a lot of stocks of the good companies with a real positive financial position with cheap prices, while you find stocks of small new companies with higher prices without real reasons."
