Amman — The “Al Khair” account committee of the Ministry of Social Development on Thursday issued assistance cheques to the Ministry of Tourism to support 334 workers in the tourism industry affected by the coronavirus pandemic, offering JD300 per recipient.

Tourism Minister Nayef Fayez, during the cheque presentation ceremony, highlighted the importance of the move in alleviating the financial challenges in the wake of the disruption caused by the pandemic, pointing out that the tourism industry is one of the hardest-hit sectors and could face a prolonged recovery period.

The minister also called for scaling up efforts and public-private cooperation to ensure the continuity of tourist institutions, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

“Al Khair” bank account was opened to receive donations from the Kingdom and abroad to support underprivileged families and those whose work and income was cut off amid the temporary precautionary measures in light of the coronavirus crisis.
