Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies (KFAS) is a non-profit organization established in 1974 by the late Chairman CHEY Jong-hyon of SK Group in order to promote national growth through academic development via cultivating world-class scholars. After establishment, KFAS initiated its Doctoral Study Abroad Scholarship Program to select the brightest students in the country, prepare to send them to top institutions of higher education overseas, and provide full funding including tuition and living expenses. Other scholarship programs were later added to support students in social sciences, natural sciences, East Asian studies, and information technology. So far, a total of 727 individuals have been successfully awarded doctoral degrees while 180 students are currently working on their PhDs.
