Sharjah - The Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Publishers Weekly (PW), a weekly news magazine covering the latest feature stories on the international publishing industry. The MoU enables SBA to bring out a monthly print edition and a weekly digital edition of the magazine for the publishing industry in Arabic.

The MoU was signed in the presence of HE Ahmed Al Ameri, Chairman of SBA; with the signing event taking place between Cevin Bryerman, Executive VP, Publisher of Publishers Weekly and Faisal Al Nabouda, Head of Sales at SBA.

HE Ahmed Al Ameri, Chairman of SBA, said: “Through this new partnership, we will further strengthen our close relationship with Publisher’s Weekly, a global authority and point of reference for publishing and creative industry professionals for news, updates and latest trends. This move reflects Sharjah’s cultural stature, which thrived thanks to the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, through establishing education, knowledge and science systems that harness books to build a strong generation of readers and intellectuals”.

“The MoU exemplifies our call to international publishers to explore new venues of collaboration and communication with their Emirati and Arab peers. This is a significant addition to the plethora of publications, cultural events and projects that Sharjah produces annually, such as the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) and the Sharjah Publishing City (SPC) – the first-of-its-kind free zone for publishers in the world.” he added.

Founded in December 2014, the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) is dedicated to encouraging and expanding investment in creative industries. It offers a platform for knowledge and intellectual and cultural exchange between people from different civilisations and cultures.

The SBA seeks to highlight the significant role of books and their impact on promoting community awareness in view of technological advances and diversity of knowledge sources. It also aims to attract relevant bodies and figures operating in the cultural sector in general, and the publishing, printing, translation, documentation and children’s books in particular.
