Muscat - The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) has invited bids for designing and constructing a tourist pier at Khasab port.

The deadline for submitting the bids is September 1. Companies can obtain any information about the tender on the website etendering.tenderboard.gov.om MoTC stated.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, Raed bin Mohammed al Shehhi, member of the Board of Directors of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and head of its Musandam branch, said, “The implementation of Khasab port pier project has become necessary because of rise in cruise ship arrivals. The port received 72 cruise ships last winter season. The number is expected to increase in the coming years.”

The project that comes in the wake of increased activity in various tourism, commercial and fisheries sectors will contribute to improvement in services.

Marafi took over the operations of Port of Khasab from April 1 as part of its plan to develop it as an international hub to attract investment and more tourists from around the world. Marafi is the port operations and management company established by Asyad, sultanate’s logistics arm which covers ports, free zones and other transportation sectors.

The Ministry of Tourism has said that 1,030,404 people visited Musandam in 2018. Of these 869,067 arrived via cruise ships and 132,704 stayed in hotels. Also, 28,633 visited castles and forts.
