Cairo - Mubasher: The Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation, Rania El-Mashat, and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, signed an agreement with the Japanese Embassy and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to increase the Japanese grant to Abul Rish Children’s Hospital to $19 million.

The grant will be used in building outpatient clinics in the hospital, according to a statement by the Ministry of International Cooperation on Wednesday.

The current economic cooperation portfolio between Egypt and Japan has reached $3 billion, used in financing the establishment of 14 projects in various sectors, including electricity, transportation, education, and irrigation.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, Japan has supported the Egyptian health sector with $28 million, including a $9 million grant to support the country's efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and purchase medical equipment.

El-Mashat stressed the importance of Abul Rish Hospital, which treats more than 25,000 patients per month.
