Dubai International Airport (DXB) has reclaimed the top spot as the world’s busiest international airport, according to aviation data analyst OAG.

The aviation hub landed the number one position in the ranking for the month of October, unseating the previous holder, Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS).

The Amsterdam airport moved into the second place, followed by Frankfurt (FRA) in the third position and London Heathrow in the fourth place.

Dubai’s return to the top of OAG’s global ranking comes as travel gradually recovers and airlines continue to ramp up operations worldwide.

DXB-headquartered Emirates has been re-deploying its fleet worldwide and aims to restore 70 percent of its capacity by the end of the year.

According to OAG’s data, DXB has a capacity of more than 2.7 million seats in October, the highest in the world.

OAG’s ranking

The ranking of busiest airports by OAG is updated each month. The busiest international airports are ranked based on international airline capacity.

In terms of total domestic and international seat capacity, the United States’ Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) took the crown as the busiest, followed by Chicago O’Hare (ORD) in the second spot.
