ABU DHABI: The Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities (DPM), in cooperation with the Emirates Post Group, organised an introductory workshop to 70 logistics companies on its unified address system, Onwani Click.

The workshop, organised in coordination with Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra municipalities, aims to raise the standards of logistics services provided by private sector companies, by offering accurate guidance to destinations that will help reduce both time and distance.

Through this new system, which was developed by the DPM, users will be able to reach their destinations by entering information of the desired location, such as building number, street name, and name of the region or city.

The system will also show the user additional information about various public services available within the vicinity.

On the Onwani Click app, users will also benefit from using the QR code on each address, which can be shared with other users via other means, such as Whatsapp.

H.E. Majed Al Jaberi, Acting Executive Director of the Real Estate Sector in DPM, highlighted that Onwani Click aims to facilitate the work of companies and all vital sectors, providing them with an integrated package of features that serves Abu Dhabi’s economic, security, social, environmental, tourism and cultural sectors.

It will also help in laying solid foundations for accurately located infrastructure, by adopting the use of advanced technologies in the field of geographic information systems.

H.E. Majed said: “At the heart of urban planning is anticipation. The role of DPM is to plan a sufficient and resilient infrastructure framework capable of supporting anticipated economic and physical growth.

“To further support this ambition, the DPM has created a range of tools, each carefully tailored to specific community needs. Onwani Click is part of our new wide-ranging initiatives that flow straight from our strategic and comprehensive analysis of future transformative changes”.

H.E. added: “This event is part of the DPM's efforts to enhance the quality of life in the Emirate. Developing this system is an important step towards providing smart infrastructure that facilitates access and effective transport to various destinations in the Emirate. The spatial planning technology plays an important role in delivering economic, social and environmental benefits".

The workshop also discussed the different ways to use Onwani Click via the app, which provides integrated data on addresses, roads and street names in the Emirate, as well as updated information to ensure it reaches all communities.

The new system provides users with a variety of options to use different languages like Arabic and English, the possibility of using different operating systems such as Android and iOS, and also integration with navigation applications and other electronic maps.
